The Interview

For my interview I interviewed a doctor at one of our local imaging centers here in Prescott. He told me about his schooling, the benefits of being a Radiologist, advantages, disadvantages, and the challenges that his job inquires. I learned for this interview that you have to be hard working and give it your all. In order to be successful in radiology and in life, you have to be committed and willing to learn, and be ready to make sacrifices. What I mean about making sacrifices, is that if you really want this job and if that means being on an internship and working 90 hours a week, then so be it. Overall, the doctor was very nice and even offered me to come back any time to ask him any additional questions.

This source describes the nature of the work, the training, qualifications, and employment. They also go into the job outlook and the earnings of the job. When looking at the nature of the work it gives a clear definition to what a radiologic technologist does, as well as, some radiologic technologist’s specializations. The training that is required is a certificate, an associate degree, or bachelor’s degree, but of course requirements vary. Employment is about 61% of them in hospitals, while others were in physician offices, medical, and diagnostic laboratories. The job outlook is said to grow faster than average and if you know more than one diagnostic imaging procedure, will have the best employment opportunities. As for the earnings, the lowest earned was less than $35,100 and the highest is more than $74,970. I plan to use this in my essay because it has a lot of the major information about radiology. I also can tell this is a credible source because our librarian showed it to us.

In this source, I found a blog full of information on radiology and other links that go to certain websites. I found this very useful for my essay because it applies to all major questions. As well as, links to schools were you can gain a degree or certificate. Looking at this source I can tell it’s credible because it’s been updated to date and it is a blog by a real radiographer. Another thing that I found very helpful in the blog was that these websites are the top ones that people look into. I plan to use this information in my essay by picking different websites that I can relate to and pick information from each of them.

This source focused on how radiology can affect your health by the certain radiology that is released during the procedure. So in this article they go over how many are worried about the fact of getting hit with too much radiology. They go over how health and medicines are related to getting hit with too much radiology and they intend to improve the procedures. Although, this article was written in 2008, I’m sure that many different procedures are done, so that it is safer for the radiographer and the patient. If I were to use this in my essay, I could argue the fact that procedures aren’t done well enough or better than they were back in 2008. This source is credible because it is from a business journal talking about radiologic technology.

This article that I found was sweet because it’s an article that was written on the fifth of April, so it’s up to date. The article starts off by stating that medical imaging and nuclear medicine procedures are done over 20 million times. Also, that these medical imaging and medicines are a better understanding of certain diseases, especially cancer. The article really goes into cells and how they function over time. They mention CT scans and MR images, which is part of radiology. Stating that thanks to these medical images that cancer can be caught at an early stage where it is treatable. The article continues to go into how cells change and that with these medical imaging machines that it can promise to catch the disease at an early stage. This source can be useful in my essay by going into the specific scanning’s that some radiologists do. Also I find this source credible because it is from an actual radiology magazine.

It also gives the others specialties in radiology, such as: Radiography, Sonography, Fluoroscopy, CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Radiotherapy, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine. It also states what kind of education is needed to work in other parts of the country. It also tells you the job availability.

He has been in the profession for 39 years. Dave decided to create a web page on all the best magazines, videos, and web sites. He also has a whole bunch of other tabs talking about radiology and the other specialties in the radiology field.

The web page has blogs from other radiologists and also has a job tab. The job tab shows others job opportunities all over the United States. The web site also has data sheets, calendar events, and directory. One of the really cool things about this site is that it has most of their magazines on the web site. The Reason...

Well the main reason I chose to major in radiologic technology was because I’ve always wanted a career that would help people. I also wanted a career in the medical field but one problem that I have is dealing with blood and needle. Luckily, I found radiology, I became very excited and even more, when I found out that Yavapai had a two year program to get the degree. Although, I only know that radiology is medical imaging or a type of treatment for cancer and other things. I’m very excited about this essay because I know I’m only going to learn more about the field. Oh and I almost forgot…Radiologic technology is people that perform diagnostic imaging exams and administer radiation therapy treatments, which I found out from a brochure that I got from the college.
